چکیده

This paper describes the creation of a Unix-compatible le system with highly scalable performance and size. The le system is on the CM-5 backed by a scalable array of disks. Using the Unix le system (UFS) from the SunOS 4.1.2 kernel as a base and modifying it to support Connection Machine (CM) operations, we have created a new le system, the scalable le system, or sfs. We discuss the CM operations we support, such as parallel reads and writes to the processing nodes of the Connection Machine, the use of NFS to support many partitions of processing nodes on the CM, support for very large le sizes (64-bit) and support for odd numbers of disk drives. The tradeo s and decisions made during the course of this project as well as performance data for varying numbers of disk drives are provided.

Enhancing File Security by Integrating Steganography Technique in Linux Kernel

In today‟s world securing file data is very important. The proposed Secure File System (SFS) provides file data security using steganographic techniques in a transparent and convenient way. The proposed SFS pushes information hiding services into the Linux kernel space, mounting it between the Virtual File System layer and underlying file system. After SFS is integrated with the Linux operating...

SFS: random write considered harmful in solid state drives

Over the last decade we have witnessed the relentless technological improvement in flash-based solidstate drives (SSDs) and they have many advantages over hard disk drives (HDDs) as a secondary storage such as performance and power consumption. However, the random write performance in SSDs still remains as a concern. Even in modern SSDs, the disparity between random and sequential write bandwid...

Concurrency Control for Multi - Processor Event - Driven Systems

This thesis describes libasync-mp, an extension of the libasync asynchronous programming library that allows event-driven applications to take advantage of multiprocessors by running code for event handlers in parallel. To control concurrency between events, the programmer can specify a color for each event: events with the same color (the default case) are handled serially; events with differe...

The Advancement of NFS Benchmarking: SFS 2.0

With the release of the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation’s (SPEC) System File Server (SFS) Release 1.0 benchmark suite in April 1993, the characterization of NFS server performance grew from a small and not widely accepted set of benchmarks, to a single industry standard benchmark. This paper will provide a historical look at the success of SFS 1.01 and how it has driven server capab...

SFS-Knoppix which Boots from Internet

KNOPPIX is a bootable CD with a collection of GNU/Linux software. KNOPPIX is very convenient but it requires downloading 700MB iso image and burning a CD-ROM when it is renewed. In order to solve this problem we make SFS-KNOPPIX which boots from Internet with SFS (Self-certifying File System). SFSKNOPPIX requires 20MB boot-loader with Linux-kernel and miniroot. Root file system is obtained from...
